Abstract

Valorization and conservation of the prehistoric archaeological sites in Algeria, Egypt and Libya.

Considering the urgent need of protecting and conserving the prehistoric rock art which is located in open sites, the author discuss the scientific methodology  for valorizing and conserving the prehistoric archaeological sites in Algeria, Egypt and Libya

Aims of the study:

1- To increase the regional cultural tourism and local development by valorizing and conserving the archaeological sites in the partner countries.

2-To  create a web site that gathers all the historical ,archaeological and scientific information about prehistoric art in the partner countries.

3- To stimulate the local development by offering a network of minor archaeological sites.

Objectives:

Cataloguing of the minor prehistoric archaeological sites . 1-

2-Valorisation of the archaeological sites in the three countries.  

3- Management of the sites with methods that could assist in attracting national and international tourism.

4- Conservation and preservation these sites from damages and threats

5- Providing services through the web site to researchers who wish to have precise complete archaeological information.

6- To stimulate the process of cataloguing as well as complete and extensive description of the rock art and other prehistoric sites

7-The project will also encourage further scientific and culture exchange between Euro- Mediterranean partners.

8- To improve the communication infrastructure to support cultural tourism in the isolated sites.

The project will be achieved through the implementation of the following sub-projects:

Sub project 1: a common cultural heritage cataloguing approach for prehistoric archaeological sites in the partner countries.

The aim of this activity is to produce an inventory of the existing databases on rock art sites and all the prehistoric rock sites in the partner countries.

Sub- project 2: valorization and management

Sub- project 3: conservation and presentation of these archaeological sites

Sub- project 4: the aim of this sub- project is to research website interoperability issues and establish a set of intermediate tools for the researchers.
